The dread is usually vocabulary, not ability.
Adults returning to study tell us the same thing in slightly different words: everything was fine until the statistics requirement, and now they are considering dropping a program they are otherwise good at. Almost none of them turn out to be bad at this. They are missing the vocabulary, and the course moves at a speed that assumes they already have it.
So two things happen here. Your assignments are handled by a statistician while the term is still moving, and the reasoning is written out in ordinary language so that the vocabulary arrives without a semester of panic attached to it.
Four places a weekly assignment quietly loses marks.
The arithmetic is rarely where it goes wrong, because software does the arithmetic. The marks leak around it.
- The procedure chosen from a menu instead of from the question the assignment actually asks
- Assumptions never mentioned, which leaves a tidy result resting on nothing a grader can see
- Output pasted in raw, when the rubric wanted a table built in your manual's format
- A finding reported as significant and then abandoned, with no sentence saying what it means
- Language that overreaches: proved, caused, demonstrated, where the design only permits association
The sentence under the table is the graded part.
A result turns into a mark when somebody says what it means for whatever the study cared about. Which hypothesis it settles. How big the effect is in units a nurse or a teacher would recognize. Which claims your design has no right to make. What somebody should do about it at work on Monday morning. In most rubrics that paragraph is the assignment.
Your specialist writes it in plain English rather than in the dialect of a methods textbook, which is what your instructor was hoping for anyway. Whether your course runs on SPSS, on R, on Excel or on something your department adopted last year, the file you receive follows that course's own submission conventions.

At some point a professor asks why you used that test, or a committee asks what happens to your conclusion if an assumption is shaky. Being handed results you cannot discuss is a worse position than having no results at all, and it is a position no honest desk should put you in.
So every decision comes back to you explained: why this procedure and not the neighboring one, what the assumption check showed, what the effect size means in the units of your field. I have not done math in fifteen years. Is this hopeless?
Not remotely, and you are describing about half the people who come to this desk. Statistics coursework rewards careful reasoning far more than arithmetic ability, and the software handles the calculation anyway. What has usually gone missing is vocabulary and confidence, both of which come back faster than you would expect once somebody explains the words.
Which package does the course run on?
Yours, whichever it happens to be. SPSS turns up across nursing, psychology and education, R appears where a department has gone in for reproducible analysis, and business courses lean on Excel. Say which one your syllabus names and the files arrive in that program's own format, with syntax or menu steps included when your instructor asks to see the process.
Do I get the paragraph as well as the numbers?
Yes, and for most assignments the paragraph is the larger part of the grade. It states the hypothesis decision correctly, describes the size of the effect in units your field uses, and admits what the design cannot support. Whoever ran the analysis writes that paragraph, which is why the table and the prose never end up contradicting each other.
My instructor accepts one table layout and nothing else.
Then that layout is what you get. Attach an assignment that has already been marked, or the instruction sheet, and the convention is copied down to the decimal places. Courses differ wildly here: pasted screenshots in one, a syntax file in another, numbers folded into the sentence in a third. Matching it costs nothing and ignoring it costs marks every week.
Can the same person handle my capstone analysis later?
Yes, and that is what a good many students arrange from the start. Doctoral analyses, including regression families, multilevel models and survival work, go to the same statistics chair who held your coursework. Keeping one person across both means nobody has to relearn your data, your variables or what your committee has already objected to.
